South Wales Fire and Rescue Service confirmed an area of 150x120 metres was damaged by the fire.

It told The Express: "Crews and appliances from Pontyclun, Pontypridd, Pencoed, Cowbridge, Whitchurch, Cardiff Central, Barry, Kenfig Hill, Caerphilly, Tonypandy, Ely, Bridgend and Aberdare attended the scene.

"Approximately 150x120 metres was damaged by the fire. Crews tackled the fire using 6 breathing apparatus, 2 ground monitors, 2 main jets, 1 hose reel jet, 1 aerial ladder platform supplemented by bowsers, personal respirators, and an environmental unit for decontamination.

 "Stop message was received around 08:10.

 "Crews will be reinspecting the incident this morning."
