Argos shoppers rush to pre-order Nintendo Switch 2 consoles ahead of release | Gaming | Entertainment

After months of rumours and endless speculation, the Nintendo Switch 2 is finally official with the Japanese gaming firm revealing that it will arrive in store from June. Although that's still a few months away, fans will be able to pre-order from April 8 but if you can't wait until next week then Argos might be your best bet.

The retailer has launched a surprise pre-order page on its website, which appears to let Switch 2 fans pop one in their shopping basket ahead of Nintendo's launch schedule.

There are two options to choose from: Nintendo Switch 2 Console Black (£395.99) and Nintendo Switch 2 Console and Mario World Bundle £429.99). As the name suggests, the second option includes the new Mario game as part of the deal.

It's unclear why Argos is ahead of the game and how much stock they have, but you can find the deals here.

So what's new on this device? It's been confirmed that the Switch 2 will arrive in stores on June 5 and will feature a 7.9-inch vivid LCD screen for pin-sharp action on the move.

This massive display will be fully capable of stunning 1080p visuals and offer faster 120fps refresh rates for silky smooth gameplay. It’ll go to 4K when in docked mode on your telly.

Improved Joy-Con 2 controllers, which now snap to the console via magnets, will feature clever sensors that offer entirely new ways to game.

Owners will be able to use them just like a mouse when detached from the console.

The upgraded Joy-Con controllers also get improved buttons and bigger control sticks, and there's even a new "C" button that instantly lets you chat in-game with friends and family via a new microphone built into the device.

You can even buy a separate Switch 2 camera to do your best influencer impression.

There's a redesigned kickstand on the rear case, which offers better viewing angles, and despite its bigger screen, Nintendo says it's no thicker than before, so it should still offer the ultimate portability.

It will also come with 256GB of internal storage, up from the original’s meagre 32GB, so there's plenty of space to store your games.

Along with the new console's full unveiling, Nintendo also confirmed the games that will be available when it finally hits stores.

The main launch title announced during Nintendo Direct was Mario Kart World, a brand new racing game featuring our favourite Italian plumber and his pals, where you can travel all over the glove racing.

While there will be traditional levels, there is much more freedom during and outside of the races, traversing wacky lands in cars, motorcycles, boats, snowmobiles and planes.

You’ll also finally see a Nintendo version of PS5 Keanu Reeves fronted action title Cyberpunk 2077 at launch.

There’s a new Donkey Kong 3D game that’s called Banaza that looks colourful and great fun too.

Among other games confirmed for Switch 2 were Elden Ring, Hades 2, Split Fiction and brawler Street Fighter 6.

“Nintendo Switch 2 is the next step in at-home gaming that can be taken on the go based on eight years of play and discovery that began with Nintendo Switch,” said Nintendo President Shuntaro Furukawa.
