Sergio Perez is reportedly in "advanced talks" about a return to Formula One just months after being given the boot by Red Bull. It comes amid a period of chaos at his former constructor, with Perez's replacement, Liam Lawson, already having been axed himself.

Perez made his Formula One debut back in 2011 for Sauber F1 Team, before eventually making the jump to Red Bull ahead of the 2020 season. Across his five years behind the wheel at Red Bull, the Mexican recorded six race wins, with his best finish coming in the 2023 campaign when he placed second in the Drivers' Championship behind team-mate Max Verstappen.

Things took a drastic turn last season though, with Perez failing to register a podium finish in any of his last 19 Formula One races, leading to Red Bull pulling the plug on their partnership. Perez had signed a contract extension with the team in June 2024, which was supposed to run for an extra two seasons, but a decision was made by Christian Horner and co. to cut ties early.

However, as per The Times, a return to Formula One could now be on the cards, with Perez being eyed up by the new team on the Formula One grid, Cadillac. It's suggested there's still work to be done on the financial front, but the outlet claims Perez would be open to joining Cadillac next season.

Perez's stock has been boosted in recent weeks following the struggles Lawson experienced during the first two Formula One races of the season. Having been ushered in as Perez's replacement, the New Zealander failed to finish the opening race of the season before finishing 12th in the Chinese Grand Prix.

It's led to suggestions that Perez's struggles last year were less down to his own deficiencies and more to do with the Red Bull car instead. Regardless, the 35-year-old has previously revealed he would be open to making a Formula One return, if the project appealed to him.

Speaking in an interview with the official Formula One website, he explained: “If I find a project that motivates me fully to come back, where the team believe in me and appreciate my career, my experience and everything I can bring to a team, it would be very ­attractive.

“That’s why I’ve given myself at least six months to get all my options on the table and make a decision on what I do next with my career. There are a few very interesting projects out there. I’ve been approached by a few teams since Abu Dhabi. Right now, the season has started so a few things will open up in the coming months. We are talking to a few parties out there. Once I know all my options, I will make a decision. What is very clear to me is that I’m only coming back if the project makes sense and it’s something I can enjoy."
