Boston truck crash sees vehicle hit several pedestrians | World | News

A rental lorry has been involved in a shocking crash that left six people injured with two in a critical condition.

Several pedestrians are understood to have been involved in the the incident which happened at about 12.45pm on Harrison and Kneeland Street in the Chinatown neighbourhood of the city of Boston, USA.

Boston Emergency Medical Services (EMS) said four people were taken to the hospital, including two in critical condition, and two others were treated at the scene.

Police did not provide the driver's name or the circumstances that led to the disaster. Images from the scene showed the truck on its side surrounded by police officers and firefighters.

“This is a very active scene and does not have a total number of victims yet,” police said in a statement.

Images from the scene shared by the emergency services show the medium-sized lorry on its side having outside what appears to be a Chinese restaurant. The front end of the cab is heavily damaged, with the windscreen smashed, and the roof of the vehicle is crumpled.

A view inside the rear of the lorry shows almost no cargo inside, except for a wooden pallet and what looks like a pallet truck strapped to the side of the compartment.

On the truck it says it is from the rental firm, Penske. Company spokesman Randolph Ryerson said it was “aware of the incident” and was monitoring it closely.

He said: “Penske will be cooperating fully with authorities to support their investigation. Our thoughts are with those who have been injured in this unfortunate incident.

Mr Ryerson added: "Based on our records, the truck involved was out on rent to a commercial trucking company. We have no other information at this time.”

In a post on X, Boston Police Department wrote: "Kneeland Street between Washington Street and Tyler Street is currently closed due to a motor vehicle crash with injuries. Please seek an alternative route."

A statement from Boston EMS read: "Boston EMS transported a total of four patients to local hospitals from the scene on Harrison Avenue, two patients were taken by ALS (Advanced Life Support) ambulances. Two patients were taken by BLS (Basic Life Support) ambulances. Two additional parties were evaluated on scene."
