Pep Guardiola has provided an update on Erling Haaland after the Manchester City star was taken off with an injury during their 2-1 FA Cup quarter-final victory over Bournemouth. The Norwegian was unable to continue after picking up an ankle injury with an hour gone at the Vitality Stadium. The 24-year-old was seen hobbling around and fell to the floor in pain, which caused a stir as Bournemouth refused to put the ball out of play. He was later spotted walking out of the stadium wearing a protective boot and used crutches as an aid, a worrying sight for the top-four contenders.

Guardiola decided not to risk his limping striker and replaced him with Omar Marmoush a minute later. Speaking after the game about Haaland's substitution, the Catalan boss was coy about the extent of the injury sustained by his top goalscorer as City prepare for a crucial run of games to try and secure Champions League qualification. "I don't know yet, we have to see," the 54-year-old said. City fans will be nervously awaiting an update ahead of the run-in.

Haaland endured a busy afternoon of ups and downs on the south coast, having watched his spot-kicked parried away by Kepa Arrizabalaga with the score deadlocked at 0-0. The hosts then punished the towering striker for his miss as Evanilson stabbed home from Justin Kluivert's cutback.

But Haaland made amends for his earlier penalty miss when he brought City level on 49 minutes, sliding at home the back post after meeting Nico O'Reilly's neat cross. His day met a premature end when he was forced off on the hour mark, but City refused to cave after losing their talisman.

It was Marmoush who put them in front after yet another assist from his fellow substitute O'Reilly and City held on after Jack Grealish and Ilkay Gundogan missed chances late on. Guardiola savoured the impact from his difference-makers after making changes in the second half, as his side booked their spot in the FA Cup semi-finals for the seventh successive year.

"We did it. Seven times semi-finals of the FA Cup. I'm sorry to tell you but it's outstanding," he added. "This generation of players have done this many years and to win here, one of the toughest away places to come, because the way they play intensively, pressing.

"The guys in the first half were not winning and I say at half-time 'you have the game in your hands'. The way Nico perform was really, really good but judging everyone. Really pleased to reach the semi-final again."

Guardiola's men will face Nottingham Forest at Wembley in the semi-final, knowing they will face one of Crystal Palace or Aston Villa in the final should they progress.

"It's a tough draw for us, they're playing well but we're very happy," City star Bernardo Silva said to ITV Sport after the game.
