Prince Harry is architect of own downfall — lack of defence telling | Royal | News

Prince Harry has always been a polarising figure, but the lack of defence in the wake of fresh allegations against him is telling. Once the monarchy’s golden boy, he has spent years burning bridges – alienating the public, the press, and even his former allies with lawsuits, tell-all revelations, and stinging critiques of his family.

Now accused of “harassment and bullying at scale” through the charity's actions, the charges may be flimsy, but the silence is deafening.

Once, Harry was the people’s prince – a man who overcame childhood tragedy and served his country with distinction. His marriage to Meghan Markle only bolstered his image as a modern royal willing to defy tradition.

But in severing ties with the institution that shaped him, he also lost the public’s protective embrace. His explosive accusations – racism, bullying, betrayal – won him admirers among royal critics but cemented his reputation as divisive.

That division is stark now. While sources close to Sentebale’s former trustees dismiss the allegations as "completely baseless," they are still gaining traction. And yet, those who once would have leaped to his defence remain silent.

Sophie Chandauka, chair of Sentebale, isn’t going quietly.

She claims Harry wanted Netflix to film his show Polo at a Sentebale charity event, leading to disruption and ultimately the loss of a venue when new commercial terms couldn’t be met.

According to Chandauka, Meghan also attended without prior notice, creating logistical chaos, with the choreography of the event “going badly” and excessive focus on the Duchess.

She further claims she was pressured to issue a statement in support of Meghan but refused, fearing even worse trolling. Her stance was clear: “We cannot be an extension of the Sussex PR machine.”

Harry is no longer seen as a victim of circumstance, but an architect of his own downfall. His credibility has eroded, and with it, the instinct to rally behind him.

There’s a double standard at play – royals who stay within the fold are protected in ways Harry is not. But his predicament is a cautionary tale: estrangement, whether from family or institutions, comes at a cost. He chose freedom. Now, he stands alone.
