Premier League Darts: Gerwyn Price makes big change during to spark fans into debate | Other | Sport

Gerwyn Price suffered a thumping 6-2 defeat to Rob Cross in their Premier League Darts quarter-final clash in Newcastle on Thursday night. However, some viewers were left more disappointed by The Iceman's decision to change his walk-on song than his failure to keep up with pace-setters Luke Littler and Luke Humphries.

The Premier League descended on Tyneside for the eighth night of action, where Price was eyeing a third weekly win this year. After Littler's 6-0 mauling of point-less Stephen Bunting in less than 10 minutes, Price positioned himself at the top of the walkway ahead of his meeting with Cross. Fans in attendance and watching from home expected the Welshman to strut to the stage to the tune of his traditional soundtrack of 'Ice Ice Baby' by Vanilla Ice.

However, Price sprung a surprise by making his way to the oche to the tune of Myles Smith's song 'Nice to Meet You'.

He has been the subject of mockery for the decision on social media, with many claiming it didn't suit his persona while others criticising the song itself.

@jordanwatson70 wrote on X: "Gerwyn Price now has the worst walk on song in darts."

@JoshC_mufc2 asked: "Gerwyn Price wtf was that walk on song??"

@ShaunaRae95 penned: "Why has Gerwyn Price changed his walk on music? It’s s***!"

@Tungsten_Tales shared: "Gerwyn Price walked on Myles Smith - 'Nice to meet you' earlier tonight... Is this the worst walk-on song you've ever heard?"

@Slothie_Bee criticised: "Gerwyn Price with worst walk-on song ever played. Bring back Vanilla Ice!"

@ajascpfc posted: "Fair play Gerwyn Price that is the WORST walk-on song ever."

Cross also got caught in the crossfire, with @Scaife51 joking: "Gerwyn Price vs Rob Cross for world's worst walkout song. Loser has to keep it forever."

Price has previously made no secret of his interest in finding a new walk-on song. In January, he asked his followers for recommendations.

The former world champion has previously experimented, too. In 2022, he paid tribute to his trademark animated celebration by using Katy Perry's 'Roar'.

Fans will eagerly await to hear whether Price sticks to his guns and makes Myles Smith the new sound of his walk-on again in Berlin next week.

The 40-year-old will be more interested in improving his performance after averaging just 86.17 and converting two of his nine darts on the doubles.
