Roxie Rocks Chicago strives to bring the spirit of the West End show t | Theatre | Entertainment

Stepping into the London Cabaret Club is always a magical experience. And, although the building's entryway is fundamentally so glamorous and divine, the venue's new show, Roxie Rocks Chicago, ups the ante even more.

On my way to the cabaret-style performance area, I was met with women dancing behind bars, police with riot shields and waitresses handing out cocktails & canapés.Between the liminal space and the stage, however, a suave lounge area with live entertainment was my first landing spot; a dimly-lit waiting room with two things on offer: Drinks and plenty of vibes.

With a quick and exciting peek into what was to come, some of the show's performers dressed to the nines and played some of their favourite songs as we lulled ourselves into the world of 1920s Chicago.

After being shown to our seats, this is where the fun truly began. Roxie Rock Chicago (somewhat) retold the story of the iconic West End show and 2002 movie with lines, scenes and live performances on stage, all while scenes from the film played out on the walls above my seat.

These included acting out incredible sequences including Mister Cellophane, All That Jazz, Roxie, and plenty of other tracks you'll want to see in real life for the first time.

The performances were nestled between a three-course meal, which came complete with a running order and low-lit tables, and extra trapeze surprises, as well.

While the food was great and creative, it certainly felt rushed throughout the evening. Force-feeding yourself a slab of brownie isn't a great look when the live music is ramping up and the lights are dimming.

Despite that, Roxie Rocks Chicago strives to send its attendees back 100 years, into a world of glitz, glamour, tragedy, and fabulous outfits.

Regardless of your affinity to the stage show or movie, you'll no doubt leave tapping your toes from what is surely a night like no other.

Roxie Rocks Chicago is in residency at the London Cabaret Club right now until June 28, 2025.

Tickets are available right now from the London Cabaret Club website. Or you can buy packages from Buy A Gift.
