Windows guaranteed to be clean without steaks with 1 natural household staple

Windows are often dirty in springtime due to condensation sticking to the glass over winter, and once the sun comes out you will be able to see just how much grime has accumulated. However, many people put off cleaning their windows as it can feel impossible to get rid of the dirt without leaving big streaks which can make the glass look awful.

Luckily, the experts at Big Heart Tea have shared a simple way to get windows clean without leaving steaks - and all you need is some teabags. It may sound bizarre, but tea contains acids such as tannins which break down grime while still being gentle enough not to leave any residue behind on the glass.

The expert explained: “The tannins in black tea are a natural shining agent, so with just some used tea bags and water you can make your mirrors and windows sparkle.

“Feel free to toss that old, toxic glass cleaner you’ve been using. This recipe is a perfect use for the lot of tea bags after having a sip with a friend or two.”

Tea is not soapy or sticky so will not leave behind a film or any streaks after cleaning which can often happen with stronger cleaning solutions.

How to make a window cleaner out of tea bags

You will need:

  • Four black or green tea bags
  • 475ml of water
  • Empty spray bottle
  • Plastic funnel
  • Microfibres cloth
  • Paper towels (optional)

Method:

All you need to do is boil the kettle like you normally would when making a cup of tea. Then add four tea bags to a container and pour the boiling hot water over the teabags.

Let the tea bags seep for roughly five to 10 minutes until the water is a deep amber colour and is highly concentrated.

Remove the teabags with a spoon and leave the water a few minutes until it is cool enough to touch. Then, use a plastic funnel to transfer the tea solution into a spray bottle.

Spray a generous amount of the tea solution onto the window, and wipe it with a microfibre cloth. Any grime or dirt on the windows should break away easily and be easy to clean.

This solution should dry quickly but make sure to wipe the glass after cleaning with a dry microfibre cloth or some paper towels to also help stop streaking.

You can use leftover teabags if you wish but the cleaning solution will be more potent and therefore more effective if they are not completely dried out.
