The world's 'cheapest' seaside city where it's 28C in March and sells beers for £1.16 each | World | News

The weather is still chilly across the UK and many Brits will be dreaming of a trip to warmer climes. One city, which is known for its vibrant culture and rich history, should stand out to holidaymakers looking to chase the sun this spring.

More and more travellers are visiting Hoi An due to its beautiful beaches and temperatures reaching highs of 28C in March. The city, located in central Vietnam, has established itself as a tourist-friendly destination. The most popular beaches in Hoi An are An Bang and Cua Dai. The former is loved for its fine sand and amazing mountain views, while the latter is home to a number of stunning beachfront resorts.

Hoi An was once a bustling trading port and attracted merchants from all across Asia. This is reflected in the city's multicultural architecture and ancient buildings, including traditional wooden houses, merchant halls, and temples.

Hoi An's Old Town, which is now a UNESCO World Heritage Site, is also popular amongst tourists. It features narrow streets, lined with colourful lanterns and traditional shops.

While the flight to Hoi An might be more expensive than a trip to Europe, the city is popular also due to its cheap prices once you've touched down. Last year, Hoi An was named the cheapest city in the world because of low restaurant and bar charges and a considerable drop in the value of the Vietnamese dong. The average cost of a beer was £1.16, Coca-Cola was £0.72 and suncream was £3.70.

Visitors also enjoy visiting local tailors who offer bargain prices. They offer custom-made dresses or suits at very at reasonable costs.

Not only this, but Hoi An is also famous for its delicious cuisine. Local dishes like cao lầu (noodle dish with pork and greens), bánh mì (Vietnamese sandwich), and white rose dumplings (bánh bao vac) are must-try delicacies.

A number of travellers have taken to TripAdvisor to share their experiences of travelling to Hoi An. A large number agree on the city's natural beauty and charm.

Gareth C said: "Hoi An was a highlight to visit. I didn't fall in love with Hanoi, but seeing this World Heritage town was a breath of fresh air. The gorgeous architecture, the friendly people, and a beautiful beach close to town was a winner for me."

Sofia added: "This charming UNESCO World Heritage town is full of character and charm. With quaint shops, delicious food—especially banh mi—and cozy cafes, it’s easy to spend 4-6 hours exploring, eating, and soaking in the atmosphere. Visit in the evening when the lights create a magical ambiance.

Supatra Thanasin agreed: "Hoi An is a must-visit destination in Vietnam, offering a perfect mix of history, culture, and relaxation. Whether you’re exploring ancient streets, tasting delicious food, or getting a tailor-made outfit, this charming town will leave you with unforgettable memories.

The old buildings are so interesting to see, there’s lots of lovely shops, restaurants/cafés galore and a big river running in between for a boat ride. At night the old town is so pretty, all the lanterns are lit up and makes it feel very romantic. I absolutely loved it here and would definitely go back."
