Drivers warned of MOT mistake which could cost them 'thousands' | UK | News

Many motorists heave a sigh of relief when their vehicle sails through its MOT, thinking they've sidestepped the burden of pricey immediate repairs. Yet, mechanics often append a list of advisories that car owners, particularly those with older models, should heed.

These advisories are frequently dismissed, with drivers reluctant to fork out for various fixes. After all, if the car has passed an MOT, how grave can these issues be? However, experts urge addressing these advisories promptly as they're problems requiring attention and likely to deteriorate over time.

Neglecting them heightens the risk of flunking the next MOT and could result in steeper costs if more extensive repairs are required than initially foreseen. It's predominantly young to middle-aged drivers who tend to disregard advisories, possibly due to worries about repair expenses.

Research by car.co.uk unveiled that 69 per cent of Millennials (born between 1981 and 1996) procrastinate on acting upon MOT advisory notes, risking costlier repairs. Half of this demographic also delay getting their cars serviced, with costs presumably being the primary obstacle, according to Birmingham Live, reports Birmingham Live.

A spokesperson for the motoring firm underscored the concerning maintenance habits among younger drivers.

The spokesperson revealed a concerning trend among Millennial drivers: "69 per cent of Millennials do not act on advisory notes given after an MOT immediately, potentially leading to costlier repairs in the future. Furthermore, 50 per cent of Millennial drivers only service their cars every few years, rather than following regular maintenance schedules."
