Hilary Roberts' battle from addiction and how friend Elton John has helped her | Music | Entertainment

Chart-topping American dance star Hilary Roberts has overcome addiction, survived open-heart surgery, and credits the inspiration of her friend Sir Elton John for her years of tireless charity work.

Now 27 years sober, the Denver-born, Dallas-based singer has dedicated her life to helping others beat addiction.

In 2019, Hilary, now 55, founded the Red Songbird Foundation which funds addiction treatment and therapy for trauma survivors.

The non-profit organisation provides treatment, scholarships for alcoholism and drug addiction, education, resources, and therapy for adults struggling with unresolved childhood trauma, helping them find hope, healing, and transformation.

Today, Roberts releases new single Woman To Woman to celebrate female unity for International Women’s Day.

The video features US/Canadian actress, model, and 90s Baywatch icon Brandy Ledford, 56, and delivers a powerful message about female solidarity.

Says Hilary, “It’s a love letter to every woman who has ever lifted another up in a world that sometimes pits us against each other, it’s about choosing unity over division, love over competition, and strength in solidarity.”

Force-of-nature Hilary lost four record deals before finally breaking through in 2018 with Top Ten dance hit There For You.

The follow-up, Back to Life, a cover of Soul II Soul’s 30-year-old R&B smash, topped the Billboard dance chart.

She says she has been inspired by Elton’s long campaign for an AIDS-free future. “Elton is sober, like me – we both know the struggle. I first met him at one of his charity events years ago and he’s one of the most generous, loving people I’ve ever known. His work inspires me every day.”

Best known for her roles in Baywatch: Hawaii and Modern Family, Brandy Ledford jumped at the chance to be part of the project, saying, “being part of this music video was such an honour, not just because Hilary is a dear friend, but because her heart for lifting women up is truly inspiring.

“From the moment we met, we felt like sisters, and that bond is exactly what this song is about—women standing together, celebrating each other, and embracing our strength.

“Hilary pours so much love into everything she does, and I’m so proud to be part of this beautiful message she’s sharing with the world.”

Their connection between Roberts and Ledford runs deeper than just friendship. “We were actually born in the same hospital, three weeks apart,” reveals Hilary. “It’s so sacred to have a friendship like the one we share. Yes, she’s my big sister!”

Texan songbird Hilary suffered abuse as a child, which led to tge drug and alcohol addiction that put paid to her earlier recording deals..

She says of her pal Elton, “ He has so much love for people. He is a special, special man.”
