Indian Wells matches all cancelled as tournament chiefs issue statement | Tennis | Sport

Indian Wells Open organisers suspended all matches on Thursday night due to adverse weather conditions. Two men's and three women's matches were rained off, and it was announced just after 10pm in California that they would be phased into Friday's schedule. A statement, released via the official BNP Paribas Open X account, read: "Play has been suspended for the night due to rain. All matches still on court will be moved to Friday's Order of Play."

Action was initially stopped for around 15 minutes at 8.20pm, and then again at 8.45pm, which forced players back to the locker rooms. When the call was made, Quentis Halys was one set up and cruising to victory over Pablo Carreno Busta in the second. The Frenchman will hope to retain his momentum once play resumes. Meanwhile in Stadium 2, Mariano Navone led American teenager Learner Tien 7-5 2-3.

Julia Grabher was a set up against Iva Jovic in Stadium 3, while matches between Lauren Davis and Elina Avanesyan, and Alycia Parks and Anna Kalinskaya, were in their early stages in Stadiums 4 and 1 respectively.

Organisers of the BNP Paribas Open have now released an updated Order of Play for Friday, with the five halted matches scheduled to take place after the opening 11am contests on each of the first five courts. Californian sunshine is forecast for Friday, and conditions are expected to heat up over the weekend.

British hopeful Emma Raducanu's tournament is already over after she lost in straight sets to Moyuka Uchijima. Nick Kyrgios is another big name to have fallen, as the tearful Aussie retired from his match against Botic van de Zandschulp.

"I'm okay to lose a match," said Kyrgios. "I've lost matches in my career many times. I guess it's just the amount of work I put in and I'm still having so much discomfort in my wrist. That's I guess why I got a bit emotional in the end because it's one of my favorite tournaments."
