Man Utd player ratings vs Real Sociedad: Three 4/10s as old habits die hard in Europa draw | Football | Sport

Manchester United surrendered another lead in Europe to play out a 1-1 draw with Real Sociedad in the first leg of their Europa League last-16 clash. Joshua Zirkzee opened the scoring at the Reale Arena before a Bruno Fernandes handball saw Mikel Oyarzabal equalise from the penalty spot.

Express Sport runs through the United player ratings after an eventful second half in San Sebastian.

Man Utd player ratings vs Real Sociedad

Andre Onana: 7

A much more assured performance than what he's produced in recent weeks. Clearly made the players in front of him more calm. Not a great week for penalty saves, though.

Leny Yoro: 6

Helped limit La Real to very few chances. Looked at home on the right side of United's back three, which should be his role to lose going forward.

Matthijs de Ligt: 7

Built on his best showing for the club in Sunday's defeat to Fulham with another strong performance at the heart of the defence. He must be knackered.

Noussair Mazraoui: 7

Enjoyed an entertaining duel against Takefusa Kubo on his unnatural side. Tenacious in the tackle and helped United in the build-up with accurate long balls.

Diogo Dalot: 4

Had no excuse for ignoring a free Rasmus Hojlund in the centre for a certain opening goal. Later picked out Bruno Fernandes well, but Amorim's need for a specialist right-wing-back is so obvious.

Casemiro: 7

Looked like he was loving life back in Spain. Softened the blow of losing Manuel Ugarte to injury

Bruno Fernandes: 4

Should've scored in the first half and then conceded the, albeit harsh, penalty in the second.

Patrick Dorgu: 5

So often an attacking outlet for United down the left flank but wasn't hitting the sweet spot with his crossing. Amorim would've held his breath when he went down with a dead leg in the first half.

Joshua Zirkzee: 7

Created a great opening with a neat flick in what was another easy-on-the-eye performance when he had the ball. Opened the scoring with his first European goal for the club.

Alejandro Garnacho: 6

Created Zirkzee's goal with a precise cutback but he didn't do it near enough. Continue to struggle looking up in the final third, resulting in another five shots with no goals. Visibly disappointed by his substitution.

Rasmus Hojlund: 4

Not involved. Can only sympathise with his lack of service. Rightfully furious at Diogo Dalot for failing to find him with a cross in the first half.

Substitutes

Christian Eriksen: 5

Couldn't really make an impact as the hosts enjoyed most of the late action.

Victor Lindelof: N/A

A late arrival.

Toby Collyer: N/A

A late arrival.
