Next James Bond director ‘top choice’ unveiled by multiple industry insiders | Films | Entertainment

Who will be the next James Bond is a massive question, but that decision is partly down to the vision of the new 007 director.

The top choice for many fans would be Sir Christopher Nolan, who is a huge Bond fan and incorporates nods to the franchise across his films.

Over the years, the Oscar-winner has stated that he’d be interested in helming a “reinvention” and was very interested in doing so after 2020’s Tenet.

Yet reportedly producer Barbara Broccoli wouldn’t give him Final Cut, so off he went and shot Oppenheimer.

But now that Amazon MGM has full creative control, it looks like Nolan is likely the top choice to resurrect Bond in a reboot.

The Wrap has spoken to half a dozen industry insiders and all them confirmed that Nolan is “the top choice and the perfect filmmaker to reinvigorate the James Bond franchise for Amazon MGM.” The acclaimed filmmaker with guaranteed blockbuster box office success with his own original screenplays is currently shooting The Odyssey. The mythic epic stars Matt Damon as Odysseus and is set for release in summer 2026. Yet if Amazon are willing to wait, as one producer points out, then they could score big with Nolan helming a Bond that we’d estimate arriving in cinemas around 2028.

Another film producer told the outlet: “Given the fact that Nolan has expressed strong desire in the past to direct James Bond and also given the enormous investment Amazon has made in this IP, they should start with Nolan and only Nolan, and do whatever they can – within reason, which is very fluid in our business – to make it work. I suspect that they will and I also suspect that there is strong mutual desire to make it happen.”
