Pastry will be 'perfectly crumbly' if you add one ingredient at end

There are lots of reasons in life why you may need to make pastry.

Whether it be to make a pie, a tart or a dessert - the skill comes in handy for a number of recipes. But, though it's delicious, it's not always easy for some people to make.

Luckily for us, some advice is on hand from a baker called Zoha. The dedicated baker, who is known as bakewithzoha on TikTok, said there's a trick to making crumbly pastry that not everyone knows about.

She opened up about it in a video, and it's caught a lot of people's attention. Zoha said it's "so easy" to make a pie crust at home, and she shared just how to do it.

All you need is four ingredients to get going, and it doesn't take long at all to make. Here's what you need to know.

Zoha said: "First, mix together flour, sugar and salt in a bowl. Then take some butter straight from the fridge.

"It should be really cold. Cut it into cubes, and crumb it into the flour using your hands. It should start to resemble bread crumbs - just like this.

"Then take some ice cold water and add it in until the dough just starts to come together. Put it in the fridge and let it cool down. Then you're going to roll out the dough.

"It will start to crack around the edges, but you can use your hands to clean those edges up. Transfer to your pan, gently tuck in the edges and prick with a fork so that the dough does not rise - and that's it."

The video has been viewed thousands of times since it was shared, and people were quick to comment too. They had all sorts of ideas.

One said: "You're telling me the whole time I can make this pie easily?" Another wrote: "This turns out perfect every time. Half bake it before baking with filling."

A third also replied: "This recipe was amazing. I accidentally added four tablespoons of sugar instead of four teaspoons - still turned out wonderfully!"

What you need to make the pie crust

  • 1 1/3 cups flour
  • 1/2 cup butter, cold and cubed
  • 2 teaspoons sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 2 tablespoons cold water
