Podiatrist shares health hack to heal toe fungus with common item

One inventive podiatrist has shared her "crazy foot hack" which taps into something many have in their homes.

Toenail fungus, often a source of embarrassment when looking for treatments at the pharmacy, may have met its match with a surprising aid from your medicine cabinet.

Taking to Doctor Mike's YouTube channel, podiatrist Dana Breams divulged: "One crazy foot hack is one of the most effective topical medications you can use for toenail fungus is actually just Vicks VapoRub.

"It has eucalyptus and menthol, which are both antifungal."

Several doctors online have been highlighting the versatility of this common cold remedy, though there's contention within the medical community about its effectiveness on fungal infections.

While some experts endorse its use due to the antifungal ingredients identified by Dr. Brems, others caution against it due to a lack of proven clinical studies.

Boots' Health Hub experts weighed in: "Vicks VapoRub is not specifically designed or approved for the treatment of nail fungus.

"While some people claim that it may help alleviate the symptoms of nail fungus, there is limited scientific evidence to support this claim.

"Nail fungus is a complex condition that typically requires medical intervention for effective treatment. It is always recommended to consult with a healthcare professional for appropriate diagnosis and treatment options."

The company underscored the effectiveness of its branded nail treatment solution for relief from fungal infections, but stressed the importance of seeking advice from a pharmacist to determine if this product or another may be better suited to an individual's specific condition.

Without proper treatment, toenail fungus can lead to more serious issues such as thickening nails, increased brittleness and discolouration, which in turn makes nail care challenging and increases the risk of ingrown nails and subsequent infections.

Furthermore, there's the potential for the infection to spread to one's fingernails or housemates through shared towels, nail clippers, and communal showers, highlighting the need for cautiousness.
