Darts ace Ricky Evans shares sudden death of 'beautiful little sister' | Other | Sport

Darts star Ricky Evans has shared the heartbreaking news that his "beautiful little sister" Elisha has died, with tributes pouring in from the sporting community. Taking to social media, Evans posted several images of them together with the touching caption: "My beautiful little sister Elisha... I love you so much. I'll always be your best friend."

Evans, considered one of the most popular players on the professional circuit, competed in the UK Open on Friday where he defeated Gabriel Clemens before going out to Dave Chisnall. His management company issued a statement confirming the news, writing: "We send our deepest condolences to Ricky Evans and his family and friends, after the devastating news of the sudden passing of his sister Elisha. Our thoughts and prayers are with you Ricky."

Evans' darting colleague Ross Smith was one of many to pay their respects, as he replied on social media: "Very sorry to hear this awful news. Sending love to Ricky and his family."

Nicknamed 'Rapid Ricky' for his fast throwing at the oche, the 34-year-old made it to the third round of the World Championship and has reached the last 32 on six occasions. He is also a UK Open semi-finalist, making it to the final four last year.

He won at the UK Open in its last edition on Elisha's birthday, before saying: "I'm just a happy-go-lucky guy. Every defeat makes you a better person and I've had enough of them! It's my sister's birthday so that win is a present for her."

Heading into the UK Open, Evans took to Facebook to share his excitement at a venue that has treated him well in the past. "Happy UK Open day," he wrote. "2024 was good to me with a run to the semi-finals, and I'm hoping for another good run this year. Thanks for the support as always.

After defeating Clemens he posted: "So, so pleased to get through that one against Gabriel this afternoon. Finally on the right side of a 6-5!

"Big challenge against Chizzy tonight, but I'm well up for it! See you shortly."

He won over more fans at the World Championship with his Christmas-themed walk-on music, before inviting the Alexandra Palace crowd back to his home to continue the festivities.

"Every time they started singing my name, I thought ‘stop it, shut up, start singing his name’, because I kept getting goosebumps," he said on stage.

“I had it in my head, I got a bit emotional. Stop calling my name because I’ll start playing p** now. I don’t understand why they’re calling my name? But more the merrier, keep going.

"You’re welcome to come to the Evans household, we can sing Feliz Navidad and watch Gavin & Stacey together.”
