Chris Eubank Jr slaps Conor Benn with egg in furious press conference | Boxing | Sport

Chris Eubank Jr slapped Conor Benn with an egg during a chaotic press conference ahead of their grudge fight later this year.

The two sons of legends will finally share the ring at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in April after several years of posturing and taunting each other.

They went face-to-face after trading verbal blows at a fiery press conference on Tuesday, with Eubank leaning in and smashing an egg over Benn's head.

It appeared to be a reference to Benn claiming that his failed drugs test in 2022 was down to him eating too many eggs. His two-year battle to clear his name resulted in his suspension being lifted in November.

The pair were quickly pulled apart by security as Benn attempted to get back at his opponent. He later wrote on X (formerly Twitter): "That's the only shot you'll land on me you f****** p****. Two rounds you are finished."

Eubank's promoter Ben Shalom said he was not aware of the stunt being planned in advance and lambasted his fighter for taking things too far.

"Honestly, I don't know what happened," said Shalom. "It was an egg, we can see it was an egg, but I didn't know what it was at the time.

"I was in shock at the time like everyone else. It kicked off there. It was a great press conference until then, but I think that was too far."

Earlier in the press conference, Benn had taken aim at Eubank's turbulent relationship with his legendary father.

"Chris can say what he wants, but the bottom line is his dad doesn't even like him," said Benn. "You could not pay that man enough money to sit in this man's corner. Now that's an accomplishment, Chris.

"That's an accomplishment, well done. Most unlikeable geezer on the planet. Even your own dad doesn't like you."

The two boxers will reignite their ferocious feud in London after their initial bout in 2022 was cancelled due to Benn failing a voluntary drugs test on fight week. It will be held at the middleweight limit of 160lb with a rehydration clause included in the terms.

Benn promised a knockout when asked for his early fight prediction, telling Eubank: "You are going to get rendered unconscious by a welterweight. Like [when you fought] Liam Smith. I bet that brings back horrors.

"Exactly the way he jumped up to 160lb and he had you dancing all funny, that's exactly what's going to happen. Then you can retire off into the sunset with your pension fund. That's you done."
