Food warning as popular ice cream recalled over health risk

Supplier Cheshire Farm has recalled two popular ice cream products that could cause a major "health risk" if eaten without care.

The ice creams contain hazelnuts, which the label does not mention. A statement from the Food Standard Agency emphasises that the products are a possible health risk for anyone allergic to nuts.

The product could cause food allergy symptoms such as tummy pain, sneezing, itchy skin and lightheadedness if eaten.

Nausea, vomiting, facial swelling, and breathlessness could also occur in those allergic to nuts.

The NHS warns that a serious allergic reaction may occur in some cases, requiring immediate hospital treatment.

The FSA has alerted relevant allergy support organizations to inform their members of the recent food recall. "The company has also issued a point-of-sale notice to its customers," the FSA stated.

"These notices explain to customers why the products are being recalled and tell them what to do if they have bought the products."

Anyone with a nut allergy is advised to "not eat" the ice creams.

Instead, people are encouraged to return the products to the store they bought them from for a full refund. People who bought the affected products will not need a receipt to get a full refund.

More information on the labelling error can be found at info@cheshirefarmicecream.co.uk.

Cheshire Farm noted: "Cheshire Farm Caramelized Biscuit and Biscoff Ice Creams do not have any affiliation with the Lotus Biscoff brand nor contain any Biscoff products. Lotus Bakeries does not endorse and is not associated with these products in any way."
