Having completed his Got Back world tour in London last Christmas with a Beatles reunion alongside Sir Ringo Starr, Sir Paul McCartney is back performing live once again.

The 82-year-old had a trio of intimate New York City gigs this month and has since performed a three-song medley at Saturday Night Live’s 50th anniversary show.

Macca shared on Instagram: “We had a fabulous week in New York with three small gigs leading to the 50th anniversary show of @nbcsnl.

“It is always exciting to play at small venues it reminds me of when we began in places like the Cavern and Hamburg.

“The three gigs we played at @boweryballroom were fabulous. We really enjoyed playing to the young, enthusiastic audience and the atmosphere was intimate and electric!”

In footage from the SNL 50th show, Macca sat at his psychedelic piano accompanied by his band, before singing in front of a celebrity audience. The Beatles legend performed Golden Slumbers, Carry That Weight and The End to a rapturous reception. Having started off on the keys, he was soon on his feet, strumming his guitar as the crowd sang along.
