Drivers warned to make one change or risk £1,000 fine from DVLA

Motorists need to contact the DVLA and change their details as soon as possible if they move house to avoid being caught out by the hefty fees.

In a video, @drivingtestsuccess explains: "If your address changes, you must inform the DVLA so they can update your details, whether that's on your provisional or full driving licence.

"It won't cost you anything, and you can continue driving while waiting for your new licence to arrive.

"You must also update your address on your vehicle logbook, your vehicle tax, and your personalised registration document if you have a private plate.

“If you do not inform the DVLA of an address change, you could be charged up to £1,000. So it's really important to keep those details up-to-date.”

Drivers can update most of their details online through GOV.UK in minutes, making it a simple process to go through.

A new driving licence photocard should arrive within three weeks of submitting an application.

Individuals can keep driving while waiting but motorists should contact officials if a new photocard hasn't arrived a few weeks after submitting their request.

Road users can still update their driving licence by post if they send their photocard to DVLA headquarters in Swansea.

GOV.UK said: “You must update your driving licence, vehicle log book (V5C), Direct Debit for vehicle tax and other details when you move home.

"You do not need to tell us if you move temporarily (for example you’re living away at university) if we can still contact you at your permanent address.

“You can still drive while you wait for your new documents to be sent to you.”
