Meghan Markle's 'interesting timing' questioned after duchess makes 'noticeable' shift | Royal | News

Meghan Markle's latest frequent posting on social media has been questioned by a PR expert who said the "noticeable shift" could suggest two key things.

The Duchess of Sussex launched her official Instagram account on New Year's Day and, after a week of frequent posting, she went quiet on it following the devastating wildfires in Los Angeles.

But earlier this month, the duchess made a big return as she shared various bits from her trip to Canada with Prince Harry, posting almost every day.

This week, the duchess dominated headlines with her Instagram posts after she launched her brand, As Ever, renaming her old one American Riviera Orchard.

Now a PR specialist said that her new approach to using social media could carry a deeper meaning as the duchess braces for the release of her new show on Netflix, With Love, Meghan, which is set to air on March 4.

Renae Smith, founder and director of The Atticism, told the Express: "[Her change in posting frequency] Is certainly a noticeable shift in approach.

"Whether it’s driven by concern about the show’s success or just Meghan being given free rein to post as she pleases, the timing is interesting.

"Given how limited her social media presence has been in the past, this sudden wave of content suggests either a shift in strategy or… (and I think this is more likely) simply giving her permission to lean into her natural instincts online."

Ms Smith added that while Meghan could be "concerned" about her show's performance, the change in how frequently she posts online could simply mean that she just "enjoys posting this way".

She explained: "While I’m sure she has concerns about how the show will perform—anyone in her position would—this doesn’t feel like a structured, carefully crafted campaign.

"It’s more likely that she enjoys posting this way and was previously advised to hold back due to ongoing controversies.

"Now, perhaps with fewer restrictions, a new PR team, or lack thereof (unlikely), she’s indulging in a more ‘real’ approach to Instagram."

The PR expert concluded giving a warning: "Frequent posting can serve a dual purpose: it keeps her relevant in media conversations leading up to the show and ensures she’s controlling her own narrative amid the usual media speculation.

"Whether intentional or not, it does achieve that."
