Met Office issues new 7-hour weather warnings with power cuts possible | Weather | News




The Met Office has issued new seven-hour yellow weather warnings that could see disruption to travel and possible short-term power cuts.

The wind warnings have been put in place for Wales, as well as Strathclyde and Dumfries, and Galloway, Lothian & Borders in Scotland, running from 7am until 3pm on Friday.

The national forecaster has also issued a warning for Northern Ireland, which will be in place from 8am until 12pm on the same day.

The warnings state: "A brief spell of strong and gusty southerly winds will likely coincide with rush hour on Friday. Gusts of 45-55 mph are likely across the warning area, with exposed coasts and hills of counties Down and Antrim could see brief gusts of 65 mph.

"Winds quickly ease from the west late morning."

The Met Office has warned those in affected areas to expect some delays to road, rail, air and ferry transport. Bus and train services could also be impacted with high-sided vehicles on exposed routes and bridges likely to be delayed.

Brits living in coastal areas may also see spray and/or large waves which can impact sea front properties and coastal routes. The weather forecaster also says how short term loss of power and other services is possible.
