Nintendo Switch 2 specs may underwhelm but new leak hints at genius design innovation | Gaming | Entertainment

A new Nintendo Switch 2 feature may have been discovered ahead of the April Nintendo Direct conference.

Nintendo fans have discovered a Switch 2 patent that seems to shed light on an innovative new feature that could turn the console on its head.

As you can see from the announcement trailer further down the page, the Switch 2 JoyCons are attached to the side via magnets and a traditional connector. This is a change from the sliding mechanism of the original Switch.

The new patent suggests that the JoyCons can be attached to either side of the device, and that the screen will flip depending on your preferred layout.

While this may not sound particularly exciting, flipping the device will alter the layout of the various ports. This means you can plug your headphones into the top or bottom of the device, depending on your preference.

The Nintendo Switch 2 may not be the most powerful device with the highest specs, but innovative features like this should make it one of the more user-friendly consoles.

Likewise, the rumoured mouse functionality should make the Switch 2 much better for playing PC strategy releases and hardcore role-playing games like Baldur's Gate.

Fans should find out more about the Switch 2's unique features and release schedule when Nintendo holds a Direct conference on April 2.

It was recently revealed that the April 2 Direct will take place at 6am PT for US viewers, which is 2pm GMT UK time.

Nintendo will use the Direct to announce the price of the console and the launch line-up, although some of these details may have already leaked.

Multiple analysts have suggested that the Switch 2 will cost $399, which is more expensive than the original Switch but cheaper than the PS5 and Xbox Series X.

As for the games, a Legend of Zelda remaster is tipped for day-one, alongside third-party games like No Man's Sky, Halo: Master Chief Collection and Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024.
