England sweat over Six Nations injury concern for France test as Borthwick under pressure | Rugby | Sport

Cadan Murley is a doubt for England’s Six Nations clash with France on Saturday after missing training on Monday with a foot injury.

The Harlequins wing sat out the session at the squad’s base in Bagshot and faces a race to be fit for the game against Antoine Dupont and his rampant French side.

Murley scored on his Test debut in the 27-22 defeat to Ireland in Dublin last weekend but made two high profile errors, one of which led to a try for Bundee Aki.

The 25-year-old was also involved in Tom Curry’s score at the death that helped England claim a losing bonus point.

But his place may have been in doubt anyway as England have plenty of options on the wing and because of his mixed performance in Dublin.

Northampton’s Ollie Sleightholme, who has not played since 28 Dec because of a hamstring problem, did train and is in pole position to take over.

Sale’s Tom Roebuck and Saracens’ Elliot Daly are other contenders although Freddie Steward could shift to the wing if Marcus Smith switches to full-back.

Hooker and former captain Jamie George, who missed the Irish game with hamstring trouble, was also back in training after joining up with the squad on Sunday.

Flanker Curry did not take part in the session but that was part of his modified training programme as he manages his ongoing hip condition.

France fly-half Romain Ntamack is almost certain to miss the England game at least after his sending off in the 43-0 win over Wales on Friday.

Ntamack was given a 20-minute red card by ref Paul Williams for a reckless head shot on opposite number Ben Thomas and faces a disciplinary hearing on Wednesday.

The French are flying after that demolition of the Welsh but Ntamack’s absence could mean full-back Thomas Ramos moving to No.10.
