Greece in crisis as Santorini shuts schools over earthquakes | World | News




Schools on the Greek island of Santorini have been forced to close after reports of "seismic activity".  Tremors reaching up to 4.9 in magnitude were recorded northeast of the island on Monday, with recent days also seeing quakes of 4.3 and 3.9 magnitude reported in the vicinity.

Authorities have also recommended avoiding "large gatherings in enclosed spaces" across the island, a renowned tourist destination famous for its whitewashed buildings and blue-domed churches.
