King Charles and Queen's plans for huge milestone 'revealed' | Royal | News

King Charles and Queen Camilla are set to spend their 20th wedding anniversary in Italy, it has been reported.

The couple, who tied the knot in a civil ceremony on April 9, 2005, will toast their major milestone while on their first joint trip abroad this year, the Mirror reports.

The four-day trip will reportedly include an audience with the Pope and a visit to the Sistine Chapel, while the Vatican is celebrating a Jubilee year.

Their Royal Highnesses's visit would be carried out on behalf of the Foreign and Commonwealth Office to strengthen post-Brexit relations between Rome and London.

But the reported trip would have an added significance given their 'China' anniversary.

The visit would also signal once again a major commitment to a full work schedule by the sovereign, who continues to undergo weekly cancer treatment.

Following the pair's royal tour to Australia and Samoa last year, a senior palace official said the King had found the gruelling trip to be a "perfect tonic". They added the pair would resume a full schedule of royal tours in 2025.

While they are tipped to celebrate their anniversary in Italy, April 9 will also be a bittersweet day for Queen Camilla and King Charles.

On that day in 2021, Prince Philip - Charles' father - passed away aged 99.

Speaking of the visit, a royal source said: "The King and Queen are delighted to be heading to Italy to celebrate the ties between our two countries, especially in such an important period for their hosts.

"The fact their milestone anniversary will fall during the visit is a welcome addition. Although it will be a working day, they are sure to find some time to have a small, private celebration."
