Lewis Hamilton crashes Ferrari during only second test as health update offered | F1 | SportLewis Hamilton has reportedly crashed in only his second outing with Ferrari at the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya. The former Mercedes driver began work with his new team last week, taking part in a private test at the Fiorano circuit. He completed 30 laps behind the wheel of their 2023 car with hundreds of adoring fans lining the edge of the track. Hamilton has since travelled to Spain for more testing, with Ferrari ramping up their pre-season preparations in Barcelona. He shared driving duties with Charles Leclerc on Tuesday, using the opprtunity to gel himself into his new environment. The on-track running continued on Wednesday but it was halted when Hamilton suffered a 'minor crash', according to Sky Sports. He is said to be 'absolutely fine', with the incident described as the kind of normal situation that can happen in testing. Another report from RacingNews365 claims that Hamilton jumped out of the car unharmed after colliding with a barrier in the final sector. There was said to have been damage to the suspension and aerodynamic elements, with Ferrari enlisting their mechanics to carry out repair work in the garage. Hamilton is due to return to the cockpit on Thursday. It comes after the 40-year-old was blasted by former Top Gear host Jeremy Clarkson for playing up to the cameras during his first visit to Maranello last week. Clarkson was not impressed with Hamilton making the most of the attention by posing for social media pictures, suggesting he was acting more like a celebrity than a racing driver. "He turned up in an SUV in a suit and tie and posed for pictures before talking to fans, under the watchful eye of a video drone which luckily was there to capture the moment," wrote Clarkson in his column for The Sun. "Next, there was a tour of the team’s headquarters where, in slow motion, we saw the fawning engineers and the applause. And then, eventually, he went on to the track in a Ferrari that’s three years old. "I’m told his new house isn’t anywhere near the team’s HQ. It’s in Milan, and he doesn’t even commute in a Ferrari road car, choosing instead to use Fiat’s helicopter. It made me wonder. What is Lewis now? A driver? Or a superstar?"
