Prince Harry issues urgent plea in new video from Montecito home | Royal | News

Prince Harry has issued a heartfelt plea in a new video message that urges people to nominate for this year's WellChild Awards 2025.

Speaking on the porch at his home in Montecito, California, Prince Harry, dressed in a loose cotton shirt with the top button undone, and spoke passionately about the charity of which he has been patron for more than 15 years.

The WellChild Awards is a prestigious annual event which celebrates the inspirational qualities of the UK’s seriously ill children and young people and the dedication of those who go that extra mile to make a real difference in their lives.

Prince Harry encouraged people to "nominate the exceptional people who inspire you" and added it was a "true privilege to honour the bravery and compassion of this incredible community".

Speaking passionately about the good cause, the Duke of Sussex said: "The WellChild Awards recognise and celebrate the growing number of young people with complex medical conditions from across the United Kingdom, as well as those who go the extra mile to care for them.

"They allow us to shine a spotlight on the remarkable stories of strength, resilience and courage that they demonstrate every single day. And this year is especially significant as we celebrate the 20th WellChild Awards.

"It is a true privilege to honour the bravery and compassion of this incredible community. And to make this happen, we need your help to nominate the exceptional people who inspire you every single day.

"Your support can make all the difference. Please join us in recognising the amazing individuals who will be honored at the 2025 WellChild Awards!"

Last year’s event saw children, young people, parent carers, nurses and other professionals who work with seriously ill children attend an awards event at the Royal Lancaster Hotel in central London.

Celebrity guests at the 2024 awards included: KSI, Oti Mabuse, Rod Stewart and Pixie Lott.

Harry regularly attends the awards ceremony and flew in for the star-studded ceremony in London last year from California.

The Chief Executive of the organisation, Matt James, said this year, which marks the 20th WellChild Awards celebrates "extraordinary resilience" of children and young people, with the awards providing a "unique platform" to raise awareness of the challenges young people face.

WellChild is asking people to consider if they know someone who deserves special recognition, and to nominate them for a WellChild Award by visiting its website here.

The closing date for entries is Sunday 9 March 2025.
