If your GP agrees that a hypoallergenic dog suits you, one vet nurse has compiled a list of some breeds you might consider. Jade shared a TikTok video listing four small hypoallergenic dog breeds she recommends, including a popular UK breed.

The vet nurse didn't go into any further detail about why she recommended the breeds, but her top four picks were: Bichon Frise, Chinese crested, Yorkshire terrier, and the miniature poodle.

Pet MD also included these four breeds in their top 30 list of hypoallergenic dogs that don't shed much, providing more insight into each breed's temperament.

For the beloved Yorkshire terrier - or Yorkie - they noted that the breed can "adapt well to many different living situations" provided they receive "plenty of attention".

Poodles, whether standard, miniature or toy, are known for shedding minimal hair. However, all three breeds require "lots of care" for their fur to prevent it from becoming "tangled and matted".

Bichon Frise dogs, described as "playful and affectionate", are also "highly intelligent and highly trainable". They can quickly grasp basic training and respond best to "positive reinforcement".

Pet MD also highlighted the hypoallergenic nature of the Chinese crested breed, regardless of whether you choose a hairless or powderpuff variety.

Other breeds featured on Pet MD's list include the Labradoodle, Schnauzer, Afghan Hound, and Shih Tzu.

The site emphasised that allergy-prone dog owners must maintain regular grooming to create an allergen-free environment, suggesting weekly grooming and bathing every four to six weeks. Keeping a clean home by vacuuming, dusting, and changing bedsheets regularly can also help reduce allergens.
