Royal Mail warns 27 areas are impacted by major delays

Royal Mail offers Sunday delivery for some products, including Tracked 24 and Special Delivery Guaranteed Next Day.

However, its normal service operates six days a week between Monday and Saturday, with letters and parcels delivered to millions of households across the UK.

The postal service has warned customers that they may face delays on Monday, January 27, due to various factors affecting its normal operations.

Royal Mail reported issues in the past 24 hours, which means the post may not arrive on time in some postcode areas.

A fresh service update on the Royal Mail website reads: "Some mail posted on Friday in the BA, BS, GL and TA postcode areas for delivery on Saturday in other parts of the UK may arrive later than planned."

Severe weather conditions over the weekend have disrupted normal Royal Mail services in Scotland.

Royal Mail said that high winds on Friday, January 24, cancelled flights from mainland Scotland to nearby islands Stornoway, Kirkwall, Sumburgh, Benbecula, and vice versa. The service warned: "As a result, some mail may arrive later than expected."

Mail movement through the services' road networks was also impacted in the past 24 hours. "A fault with a trailer caused a vehicle to be late departing from our Midlands Hub to our Home Counties North Mail Centre," said Royal Mail.

Some mail due for delivery in the AL, EN, HP, LU, SG and WD postcode areas may arrive later than expected.

The UK's national postal service also listed a handful of postcodes that are "most impacted" by "local issues".

Royal Mail operates around 1,350 delivery offices in the UK, each serving a selection of local postcodes.

The organisation said: "We aim to deliver to all addresses we have mail for, six days a week. In a small number of local offices, this may temporarily not be possible due to local issues such as high levels of sick absence, resourcing, or other local factors."

Seven delivery offices have been affected by such issues today, meaning 17 postcodes could experience delays to scheduled deliveries. This includes households in Manchester, Sale, Dudley and Leicester.
