Local police have issued a brief update after Alexander Zverev was heckled over past allegations of abuse following his defeat in the Australian Open final.

Zverev was dismantled in straight sets by Jannik Sinner, who made light work of his German rival to claim the honours in Melbourne for the second successive year.

During the trophy presentation, Zverev was heckled by a member of the crowd before giving his runner-up speech. The spectator shouted: "Australia believes Olya and Brenda," referring to accusations of domestic abuse he has faced.

It prompted a puzzled look from Zverev, who was accused of violence by his former girlfriend Olya Sharypova in 2020 and of domestic abuse by another woman in 2023. He has repeatedly denied both sets of allegations.

The heckler was swiftly removed from the Rod Laver Arena but escaped further punishment, with Ben Rothenberg reporting that no arrests had been made.

On his Substack, it was claimed that two uniformed police officers spoke to the heckler for a couple of minutes before handing her paperwork and escorting her out of the vicinity.

Zverev was quizzed on the incident in his post-match press conference and made it clear that he would not be re-opening the subject of the allegations made against him.

"I believe there are no more accusations," he said. "There haven't been for, what, nine months now. Good for her. I think she was the only one in the stadium who believed anything in that moment.

"If that's the case, good for her. I think I've done everything I can and I'm not about to open that subject again."

In 2020, Sharypova detailed her allegations against Zverev in an interview with Rothenberg. Her claims were published in Racquet magazine and in Slate the following year.

Sharypova did not take Zverev to court, while the ATP found 'insufficient evidence' to substantiate her claims following an investigation, meaning no action was taken against the player. Zverev denied these allegations.

Two years ago, Zverev was issued a penalty order and fined £380,000 (€450,000) by a German court after being accused of physically assaulting another woman, the mother of his child.

Zverev denied the allegations and lodged an objection against the order, sending the case to court. The court heard that Zverev allegedly pushed the woman against a wall and strangled her with both hands 'after a heated argument'.

One of Zverev's lawyers, Alfred Dierlamm, described the accusations as 'unfounded and contradictory'. The case was discontinued when Zverev and the woman in question agreed to end proceedings shortly after the trial had started.

As part of the agreement, he paid £169,000 (€200,000) with around £126,000 (€150,000) going to the German treasury and the rest of the money going to non-profit organisations.
