Aryna Sabalenka says 'I really hate you' and threatens to blank her team during speech | Tennis | Sport

She later returned to address the crowd during the trophy presentation, joking that she 'hated' her team and claiming she would blank them for the next seven days.

"Should I say anything to my team? As always, that's your fault guys," said Sabalenka, prompting laughter from the audience.

"I don't want to see you for the next week. I really hate you. No, anyway, thank you so much for everything you're doing for me, blah blah blah.

"I think we did our best, just Madison was doing incredible and I couldn't do anything in this match. Next time I play Madison I will bring better tennis. Of course, sending love to my team. I love you even though we lost."

Sabalenka would have been the first woman since Martina Hingis in 1999 to win three successive Australian Open titles if she had beaten Keys.

She was clearly upset but was quick to put on a brave face as she thanked the crowd and congratulated her opponent, saying: "It's okay, I hope I see you next year! First of all, Madison, wow. What a tournament.

"You have been fighting really hard to get this trophy. You have been playing unbelievable tennis, you crashed it tonight. Congrats to you and your team, really well deserved. Enjoy the celebration, enjoy the fun part.

"I want to say thank you to everyone who makes this tournament happen, thank you for making my stay comfortable. I really feel at home every time I am here.

"Even though I didn't get it this time, I will be back stronger and will do my best next year. Thank you guys for an amazing atmosphere throughout. You guys are amazing."
