Cadbury makes major change to Mini Eggs and Creme Eggs

Cadbury is making a major change to one of its Easter products containing Mini Eggs and Creme Eggs this year.

Manufacturer Mondelez International is introducing its first-ever paper packaging on its The Easter Favourites Pouch as part of efforts to cut plastic waste.

The new product forms part of Cadbury’s Easter range in 2025 and contains Cadbury Mini Eggs, Cadbury Creme Eggs and Mini Cadbury Dairy Milk Eggs.

It is the first Cadbury pouch to be made entirely from paper instead of plastic, making it more environmentally friendly and easier to recycle at home.

According to The Big Plastic Count 2024, UK households throw away about 1.7 billion pieces of plastic every week - with approximately 60 pieces per household. Results from the report show that 58% of plastic waste in the UK is incinerated, 14% is exported, 11% goes to landfill and just 17% is recycled.

Food and drink items were by far the biggest contributors to plastic waste, accounting for 3,769,205 pieces last year, so small changes to packaging can actually make a big difference to these figures.

Charlotte Parkes, senior brand manager for Cadbury Easter, said: “We’re excited to be bringing retailers and shoppers our brand-new Easter Favourites Pouch and our expanded range of shell eggs across a variety of brands this Easter, with something to suit all tastes and occasions.

“We’re confident our varied Easter 2025 line-up will generate excitement among shoppers and help retailers bolster their seasonal offerings, as well as helping to boost their gifting and sharing sales.”

The 335g Easter Favourites Pouch is designed for sharing and taps into the fun of Easter eggs hunting, offering customers a variety of treat-size chocolates in a convenient variety pack.

Easter may be months away yet but shoppers can already buy a bag at some retailers. Ocado is selling the pouches for £6, Iceland is selling them for £5.50 or you can pick up a bag at Tesco for the slightly cheaper price of £5.25.

In 2015 Cadbury made the biggest change of all to its Creme Eggs when it changed the recipe, switching the chocolate to be made from standard, traditional Cadbury milk chocolate rather than Dairy Milk.

The change sparked outrage from chocolate fans and came at the same time Mondelez International introduced five eggs in a pack instead of six.

At the time, a Mondelez International spokesman said: “The fundamentals of the Cadbury Creme Egg remain exactly the same - delicious milk chocolate and the unique creme centre that consumers love. We have always used a range of milk chocolate blends for different products.”
