Marcus Rashford 'wanted by Solskjaer' as Man Utd get transfer lifeline | Football | SportManchester United forward Marcus Rashford could soon be back working with former manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer after potential moves to AC Milan and Barcelona fell through. It initially appeared inevitable that the 27-year-old would be departing in the current transfer window, having not played a minute for United in any of their last nine matches. In December, he also gave an exclusive interview to journalist Henry Winter, saying "the time was right" for him to leave his boyhood club. However, despite interest from several clubs, a move has not been forthcoming, with Rashford's current £350,000-per-week wages appearing to be a stumbling block. According to Turkish media outlet Fanatik, new Besiktas boss Solskjaer has declared himself 'personally interested' in bringing the former England international to the Super Lig. Rashford played under the Norwegian for three years at Old Trafford, after he took over from Jose Mourinho in December 2018. During that time, Rashford was a key club figure, famously scoring a last-ditch penalty against Paris Saint-Germain to take the Red Devils into the 2018/19 Champions League quarter-finals. Solskjaer only started his new role this week, replacing Giovanni van Bronckhorst. And despite admitting one of his first jobs would be to look at January signings, he also denied he had already held talks with Rashford. “I’ve come from Manchester United, so there will be transfer news like this," he said. "Casemiro and Rashford are very good players, but I haven’t had any contact with them." Besiktas would almost certainly have to persuade the star to take a considerable drop in wages if he was to head to Turkey though. However, time is now running out for Rashford to secure the chance to play regular football between now and the end of the season. Despite declaring their interest in a deal, Milan instead favoured a loan move for Manchester City defender Kyle Walker. Due to post-Brexit rules, the Serie A side only previously had room for one more English player in their squad. Rashford's favoured option appeared to be a switch to Barcelona, but financial constraints mean the La Liga club need to get players off the books before adding to their squad. And Fati's apparent refusal to leave the La Liga giants is said to have scuppered any deal with United. PSG were also linked with a temporary deal, but one which involved the Premier League club still covering the bulk of their player's wages. In the meantime, Rashford has been training at Carrington with his team-mates ahead of the club's Europa League game with Rangers tonight. Source link Posted: 2025-01-23 18:04:54 |
