Two Man Utd stars miss training as Marcus Rashford back vs Rangers | Football | Sport

Manchester United were missing two players from training on Wednesday ahead of their Europa League clash with Rangers, as Marcus Rashford returns to the squad.

Ruben Amorim's side trained at Carrington ahead of their Europa League league phase match at Old Trafford on Thursday evening, but did so without Mason Mount and Luke Shaw.

The England international pair have struggled with injuries this season and it appears the Red Devils boss will be forced to make without them in his squad.

Shaw hasn’t played since November, having suffered a setback in his recovery from a calf injury a month later. The 29-year-old is closing in on a return to fitness but the game will arrive too soon for him.

Mount, meanwhile, hasn't been seen on the pitch since he was forced off with a muscle injury during their win over Manchester City in December.

However, Victor Lindelof was amongst the players to take part in the group session as the Swede continues his recovery from injury. He was joined by Rashford, who hasn't played since the 2-1 win over Viktoria Plzen on December 12.

The forward has been linked with a move away from the club in January, with reported loan interest from Barcelona, AC Milan and Borussia Dortmund.

Rashford declared that he was “ready for a new challenge” after being left out of the squad for the Manchester derby.

But the 27-year-old, has shown a willingness to fight for his future at United under Amorim and may now get a second chance under the Portuguese coach.

United's dismal form has seen them lose seven of their last 15 matches following a 3-1 defeat to Brighton.

And that means Amorim - who called his side 'maybe the worst United team in history' after the game - may have to use the out-of-favour winger to turn things around.

Rashford has featured in all six of their Europa League matches this season, scoring one and assisting another in the 3-3 draw with FC Porto in October.

His inclusion in training comes just days after the 39-year-old boss claimed he didn't want to play against Brighton.

"Guys. It is his choice [not to play]," he said. "I don’t want to focus on this bad moment because in the games we lost, Rashford is not here.

"Rashford is out of this moment. I am not going to put [in] a player I don’t believe is the best for the team.”

Amorim had previously suggested Rashford had an issue with his training levels, which was behind his prolonged absence from the first team.
