Meghan Markle has been defended by insider over the decision to delay her upcoming Netflix series, With Love, Meghan.

One insider has referred to the decision as an "easy one" and something that had been driven by Meghan's genuine concern for her hometown and those who are being impacted by the LA wildfires.

With the original release set to take place on January 15, Meghan's eight-part series will now air on Netflix on March 4.

An insider told PEOPLE: "Delaying the release of With Love, Meghan was likely an easy decision for her.

"I don’t think she could imagine putting out a show centered on joy and hosting when so many people in her home state no longer have homes to host people in."

Although Meghan's decision has been met with support, some critcs have questioned an alternate motive behind the delay.

Speaking on this, the insider added: "I think it’s sad that critics are saying she’s only doing this to avoid the fires overshadowing her show. We’re all human, and we’re dealing with a catastrophe."

Meghan was born and raised in Los Angeles. She now lives 90 miles north of the LA area in Montecito with Prince Harry and their children - five-year-old Prince Archie and three-year-old Princess Lilibet.

It was previously confirmed that the couple had opened their home to friends and loved ones forced to evacuate amid the blazes.

Shortly after a statement encouraging others to do the same if they were able to, the couple were then pictured volunteering at World Central Kitchen in Pasadena.

Meghan and Harry, who stepped down as senior working royals in 2020, are known to have been distributing food and supplies to those affected by the Eaton Fire.

Meghan has issued a statement regarding the delay in her series, which read: "I'm thankful to my partners at Netflix for supporting me in delaying the launch, as we focus on the needs of those impacted by the wildfires in my home state of California."
