Australian Open LIVE: Huge upset already as Brit left in tears on court | Tennis | Sport

Jodie Burrage was left in tears after scoring her first-ever main draw win at the Australian Open.

The Brit spent six months sidelined by wrist and ankle injuries last year, and used her protected ranking to enter the first Grand Slam tournament of 2025.

During her injury layoff, the thought of playing the big events kept Burrage going. And it all paid off on Monday as she downed Leolia Jeanjean 6-2 6-4 to reach the second round.

Burrage immediately became emotional, bursting into tears after match point.

She later said: "Everything I did, all I was saying is, ‘I want to get to Australia, I know I’ll be good in Australia’.

"So I didn’t really want to let the opportunity go to waste today. I’m very happy that I managed to get over the line. I think I handled myself well throughout the match.

"Just at the end, it was always going to come out at some point. I’m just very, very happy. It was definitely up there with one of the best wins of my career."

She now faces Coco Gauff in a blockbuster second-round clash.
