Meghan Markle reveals biggest 'regret' about her time in the Royal Family | Royal | News

Meghan Markle once revealed her one biggest regret about her time as a senior member of the Royal Family.

After quitting life as working royals in 2020, Meghan, 43, and Prince Harry, 40, moved overseas to California in a bid to become financially independent.

While this initially created shockwaves across the UK, it was the couple’s interview with Oprah Winfrey a year later that really took people around the world by surprise.

Throughout the interview with the famous US presenter, Meghan and Harry revealed a number of shocking revelations about their time in the Royal fold, including the fact conversations had been had by members of the family about the colour of Prince Archie’s skin before he was born.

Meghan also said that she regretted believing the Royal Family were going to protect her from negativity, with the situation getting worse once she married Prince Harry in a star-studded 2018 Windsor wedding.

The duchess told Oprah: “That was really hard to reconcile, because it was only once we were married and everything started to really worsen that I came to understand that not only was I not being protected, but that they were willing to lie to protect other members of the family.

“They weren't willing to tell the truth to protect me and my husband.”

She then said towards the end of the interview: “I regret believing that, because I think had I really seen that that wasn't happening, I would have been able to do more, but I think I wasn't supposed to see it.

“I wasn't supposed to know, and now because we're actually on the other side, we've actually not just survived but are thriving.”

While the Palace do not typically comment on interviews, a statement was issued by Queen Elizabeth II shortly after Meghan's chat with Oprah hit TV screens.

It read: “The whole family is saddened to learn the full extent of how challenging the last few years have been for Harry and Meghan.

“The issues raised, particularly that of race, are concerning. While some recollections may vary, they are taken very seriously and will be addressed by the family privately.

“Harry, Meghan and Archie will always be much-loved family members.”
