Samsung's free Galaxy Watch upgrade brings a blockbuster feature to your wrist

Some Galaxy Watch users could soon receive a blockbuster upgrade, and it's one to watch out for. The update, which has just been announced at the CES technology show in Las Vegas, lets you control your television without needing to hunt for the remote. Yes, that wearable strapped to your body will soon do a lot more than just show you the time.

Once released to the public later this year, all you'll need to do is connect the Watch to the telly in your home and then use simple gestures to navigate settings, launch apps and change channels.

"Simply control the TV with your Galaxy Watch with gestures even when your hands are busy." Samsung explained.

Having seen it during a preview in Las Vegas, Express.co.uk can confirm that it works really well and seems very intuitive. Hand movements control the cursor on the TV's screen, with a quick pinch of your thumb and finger then selecting things.

You can even make a fist to go back one step or clench twice to go directly to the Home Screen.

It's a neat upgrade but it won't be available for everyone.

Firstly, you will need a Galaxy Watch 4 or later with the most up-to-date software installed.

At launch, you will also need one of the upcoming 2025 TVs in your living room although Samsung says it hopes to bring the Watch control feature to 2023 and 2024 TVs at a later date.

If you're always losing the TV remote and wear a new Galaxy Watch on your wrist then this could be the answer to your prayers.
