The freezing weather is showing no sign of slowing down as Britain is to be hit by a bone-chilling -11C blast in just a matter of days.

Brutal cold weather maps have turned blue indicating that freezing conditions are on their way.

Temperatures could nosedive even further next week with an array of UK places to see the mercury plunge to below an icy -10C.

Those in Scotland will need to wrap up warm as large parts of the country will see temperatures drop to -11C on Wednesday January 8.

The North West and Yorkshire and the Humber will also see the mercury drop to -11C.

Cumbira will see lows of -9C whilst Cheshire and Derbyshire will see a cold -8C degree blast come their way.

Powys in Wales will also see the mercury drop to -8C, key Welsh cities including Cardiff and Swansea will see slightly warmer temperatures of -3C- -4C.

The rest of the country will not be spared from the arctic blast as nowhere apart from parts of West Wales will temperatures peak above a miserable 0C.

London, the South East and South West will all see the mercury hovering around -1C- -2C. All of the UK apart from these areas could also see snow fall.

The North West and the West Midlands could see snow depths reach 25cm on January 8 at 6pm whilst parts of Scotland could see 5cm of snow fall per hour.

Taking to X user @MetRyan warned Brits to be aware of "some extremely low night time minimum temperatures through next week".

He added: "Especially Wednesday onwards out to Friday, particularly further North.

"Expecting to see quite a lot of places below -10C."

In the Met Office's weather outlook for Thursday Janaury 9 to Saturday January 18 the forecaster is warning that it will be "cold initially, with widespread frost and an ongoing risk of ice".

Snow showers are "likely in northern Scotland, with wintry showers also possible in some other coastal districts in particular. Some rain, sleet or snow is possible over the far south at first on Thursday but should clear quickly. More settled for most on Friday, although a band of cloud and rain may move in to the far west later".

Currently amber weather warnings are in place as as Britain braces for snow this weekend.

The peak of the snowfall expected to hit on today, January 4 and Sunday, January 5.
