New UK weather maps reveal exactly when a 400-mile New Year's snow bomb will arrive.

WXCharts has forecast wintery weather to hit the UK tomorrow (January 1), bringing with it snow, heavy rain and low temperatures.

Snow will hit across north Scotland (Wick, Inverness, Aberdeen) in the morning before moving over the rest of Scotland (Edinburgh, Glasgow, Dumfries).

By the evening, snow will also fall in the north of England (Newcastle, Carlisle, Middlesbrough) and north Wales (Conwy).

In the morning, there will be rain over the southwest of England (Plymouth), Wales (Conwy, Cardiff), the midlands (Birmingham) and the north of England (Manchester, Sheffield, Carlisle).

The Met Office said that today there will be rain, with some snow in Scotland, quickly extending into northern England, before spreading into the Midlands and Wales during the afternoon.

It will be mostly fine ahead of this, with brighter but showery weather will develop behind with wind, particularly in the north and west.

The forecaster says that tonight will be wet across northern and central England and Wales. Rain, sleet and snow will also move south across Scotland, with a few showers for Northern Ireland.

It will be a wet and windy New Year's Day for much of England and Wales and colder for Northern Ireland and Scotland, with a mix of sunshine and wintry showers.

A cold start to this period, with overnight frost and a mix of snow, sleet and rain showers in the north.

Milder air may make inroads from the south during the first weekend, bringing snow, rain and perhaps strong winds, but the northern extent of this is unclear and it may be that most or all of the UK remains in the colder air.

The second week of January then looks rather varied, with high pressure, cold air and wintry showers more likely across the north, spells of rain and strong winds more likely in the south and an uncertain balance between these two regimes.

Overall, temperatures are more likely to be below normal than above, but day to day variation is likely.
