Asda and Aldi announce major change to some Christmas food items

Asda and Aldi have shared some good news with customers ahead of the big day next week. Asda has announced even further reductions to its key Christmas vegetables and will see them drop to 8p from today (December 19).

The supermarket has made the move in a bid to support families with the festive food shop.

Asda is the only supermarket to have an 8p offer on five Christmas veg lines (which includes 2kg potatoes) accessible to all shoppers – no member pricing or need for a loyalty card.

Until Tuesday, December 24th, customers can buy 1kg of carrots, 500g of sprouts, 360g of broccoli, 500g of parsnips, and, for the first time, 2kg of potatoes in-store and online for 8p.

And, of course, they are only available while stocks last.

Customers can save on more than just the sides. This Christmas, Asda is offering British Whole Fresh Turkey at the price of £3/kg (cheaper this year than in 2023). This will also be available online and in-store from today (December 19).

For shoppers stocking up on wine for Christmas and New Year, Asda is currently selling the cheapest champagne on the market.

The award-winning Louvel Fontaine Champagne Brut (was £18, now £9.99) has been recognised for both quality and value. It won Bronze at the Decanter World of Wine Awards 2024 and was named Great Value by Which? in December.

The offer is part of Asda’s ‘save a third or more’ on over 20 sparkling and premium wines, which runs until January 1, 2025.

This comes as supermarket Aldi has also further dropped the price of its festive veg staples.

Shoppers will be able to pick up Carrots (1kg), Parsnips (500g), Brussels Sprouts (500g), White Potatoes (2kg), Red and White Cabbages, and Broccoli for just 8p, reduced from 15p in stores from today (December 19).

This means Aldi has dropped the price of its extra value Christmas dinner even further, from £1.91 a head to just £1.80.

From this week, families will be able to pick up Christmas dinner for six for just £10.80. This includes the British Small Whole Fresh Turkey (£8.85, £2.95 per kg), Quixo Sage & Onion Stuffing Mix (40p, 170g), Everyday Essentials Yorkshire Puddings (40p, 15 pack), and all the veggie essentials including potatoes, carrots, parsnips and Brussels sprouts for just 8p.

And, of course, let's not forget Quixo Gravy Granules (79p, 300g).

Aldi’s Festive Super Six Promotion is available in stores between December 19 to 24 December, while stocks last. Aldi’s Value Christmas Dinner range can be picked up in stores from December 19.
