Easiest way to stop window condensation from forming

On a chilly morning, many people may notice a line of condensation that has formed on the bottoms of their windows.

While condensation might seem harmless, a build-up can lead to the development of toxic mildew and mould.

Experts from Clearview Secondary Glazing revealed the easiest way to prevent window condensation.

By simply "using an extractor fan while you’re cooking, showering and bathing" you are reducing moisture levels in the house.

Less humidity in the air means there is less water vapour available to turn into condensation.

What is condensation?

Condensation is the process where water vapour becomes liquid; the National Geographic explained further.

"Condensation happens one of two ways: either the air is cooled to its dew point or it becomes so saturated with water vapour that it cannot hold any more water.

"Dew point is the temperature at which condensation happens. When warm air hits the cold surface, it reaches its dew point and condenses."

This would explain why warm humid air condenses when it touches cold windows, which leads to water droplets forming along the window.

In addition to turning on the extractor fan to reduce humidity levels in the home, certain plants help to absorb moisture out from the air.

Examples include peace lilies, Boston ferns, spider plants, and aloe vera plants.

These natural dehumidifiers help to lower the chance of condensation from forming, thereby helping to prevent the home from mould spores.

Machine dehumidifiers are also great tools to help reduce moisture levels in the home to reduce the risk of condensation in the mornings.
