Man Utd duo support Marcus Rashford as star axed by Ruben Amorim for City win | Football | Sport

Manchester United stars Manuel Ugarte and Joshua Zirkzee have rallied around Marcus Rashford after he was dropped from the squad for the 2-0 victory over Manchester City. The England ace was a notable absentee from the cross-city clash on Sunday, alongside Alejandro Garnacho.

Despite the disappointment of missing out on the derby, Rashford took to Instagram to celebrate the win over Pep Guardiola's side, posting: "Yesssssssss! Love it lads," along with two red heart emojis. His team-mates Ugarte and Zirkzee were quick to show their support, responding with heart emojis of their own.

Speaking after the match, head coach Ruben Amorim clarified: "It's important to say why: was not a disciplinary thing.

"When people in our club are losing their jobs we have to put the standards really high and for that they have to fight for a place in the team. And today the team proved we can leave anyone out of the squad and manage to win if you play together."

United defeated City at the Etihad Stadium to seal Amorim's first major victory since his appointment in November. A dramatic ending saw them flip the game on its head.

Bruno Fernandes' penalty cancelled out Josko Gvardiol's opener before Amad Diallo struck a stunning winner in added-time. City have won only one of their last 11 games.
