The Guardian and Observer charity telethon 2024: speak to our journalists and donate | The Guardian

Guardian and Observer journalists will be on hand to take calls from readers on Saturday as part of our annual charity appeal. The telethon is raising money for three important charities who work to reduce the suffering caused by conflict.

Dozens of our reporters, writers, columnists and authors will be taking donations on the phone. This year’s team includes Marina Hyde, John Crace, Polly Toynbee, Sirin Kale, Peter Bradshaw, Simon Hattenstone, Emma Graham-Harrison, Hugh Muir and Jess Cartner-Morley.

The Guardian and Observer 2024 appeal is raising money for Médecins Sans Frontières (Doctors Without Borders), War Child and the educational charity Parallel Histories.

Telethon phone lines will be open from 10am and 6pm GMT on Saturday 13 December. To make a donation by credit or debit card, and have a chat with our journalists, call 0203 353 4368.

Médecins Sans Frontières is an international charity providing emergency medical care in response to conflicts, natural disasters and epidemics. Its thousands of doctors, nurses, medical support workers and logistics staff set up and run hospitals and clinics across the world, including in Gaza, Lebanon, Ukraine, Sudan, the Democratic Republic of the Congo and Haiti. Your donations will help fund the treatment of traumatic injuries such as burns, fractures and conflict wounds.

War Child is the only specialist charity for children affected by conflict. Working in some of the most dangerous parts of the world, it delivers emergency support, protection, education and more to ensure a safer, brighter future for the children it works with. Your donations will fund emergency aid, education and specialist mental health support to help children recover from the trauma of conflict.

Parallel Histories helps schools teach children about sensitive and contested conflicts, from Northern Ireland to Israel-Palestine is the core aim of the educational charity Parallel Histories. Your donations will help it to expand and develop its range of school partners, subjects and materials.

There has already been an amazing response from Guardian and Observer readers to this year’s appeal, with more than £350,000 donated in the week since it launched.

Katharine Viner, the Guardian’s editor-in-chief, writing in her column introducing the appeal, said: “We ask you to support the Guardian and Observer appeal in a spirit of optimism and defiance, as a signal of commitment to peace, human rights and social justice, and as a gesture of solidarity with the millions of people whose lives and livelihoods have been destroyed through war and violence.
