Simple car check to help save '10 percent' on fuel costsThe Government Department for Energy Security and Net Zero have recorded the average latest pump price in pence per litre. For ultra low sulphur unleaded petrol, you can currently expect to pay 136.23 at the pump. This has gradually increased in costs since September, which means your money doesn't last for as many miles. The price of ultra low sulphur diesel has also consistently increased since September. According to the Government data, last updated on December 10, 2024, you can expect to pay 142.49 at the pump for diesel. To help motorists save money on petrol, the experts at Vertu have shared a simple fuel-saving hack. "Tyre pressure can significantly impact both the efficiency of a car," the expert cautioned. "While estimates vary, it has been reported that under-inflated tyres can increase consumption of fuel by as much as 10 percent." The expert advised to measure tyre pressure at least once monthly to ensure you're not wasting fuel. There are other fuel-saving tips too, such as avoiding harsh acceleration which only eats up fuel. The expert elaborated: "If you’re stuck in stop-start traffic and constantly speeding up harshly, just to slow down, you’re burning through fuel unnecessarily. "So, always try to take your time when pushing down on the pedal... your bank account will be much happier for the change." An idle engine in stop-start traffic is also a fuel-guzzling problem that is best combated by turning off the engine when stationary. Source link Posted: 2024-12-12 10:20:15 |
