Cleaning pro Andrea Philips has shared six cleaning hacks people should try this Christmas, and all someone needs is one popular drink. The hack can be used for everything from descaling the kettle to cleaning the windscreen of a car. 

And it may come as a surprise to you (or not) that Coca-Cola is highly acidic, and while some people drink it, it is also a great cleaning ingredient around the home. 

Thereby making cola a surprisingly powerful cleaning item, and it is cost-effective. The secret lies in the cola's unique composition. 

The drink's low, acidic pH level of 2.8 makes Coca-Cola comparable to fresh lemon juice and vinegar. 

So, grab a can, slip on those cleaning gloves, and prepare to be amazed by the surprising ways you can clean with cola. 

Six Coca-Cola cleaning hacks:

Banish grout mould 

Pour Coke on the affected area or use a Coke-soaked towel and place it on top of the grout. Let it sit for a few moments and wipe clean. Further scrubbing might be required to remove some of the mould. 

Descale kettle 

Descaling the kettle of limescale has never been easier thanks to this Coca-Cola cleaning hack. Just boil a kettle full of Coke and leave it to stand for 30 minutes. 

Clean the toilet

It’s been well documented with videos that Coca-Cola can help clean the toilet bowl. To clean it, pour Coke around the inside of the toilet bowl and leave it for an hour or so. Then flush and use the toilet brush to remove. 

Get rid of rust 

For small objects, you can let them soak in a glass of Coke overnight and just give a scrub in the morning. This Coca-Cola hack will make the rust easier to clean. 

Clean the car windscreen

Cleaning off bugs and other buildup on the car windscreen can be done by pouring a can of the soft drink over the screen and then using a hose to wash off the Coke. 

Remove tough cloth stains 

Whether it’s blood or grease, apparently Coke is the fix for getting those tough stains removed. Just empty a can into the wash with your normal detergent or powder and run through a regular cycle.
