Banish stubborn shower screen limescale with 24p ingredient better than lemon juice

Limescale builds up in hard water areas, appearing on appliances such as kettles.

However, it can also appear around taps and be present on shower screens.

Whilst chemicals may banish it, an expert has recommended a super cheap and effective hack.

Laura Marsden, cleaning expert at Marigold, said: “While they may seem like the best option to remove limescale, harsh chemicals can damage glass shower screens over time.

“If you’re fed up with unsightly smears and streaks, use this super simple and low-cost hack and grab a lime.”

Start by mixing lime juice with warm water in a spray bottle and spray it onto the shower screen limescale.

Let it sit for at least 10 minutes to work but for particularly stubborn stains, rub half a lime directly onto the affected areas.

The expert said: “Lime juice is slightly more acidic than lemon juice, so is even better for breaking down any really stubborn limescale deposits. It will also leave a fresh, citrusy smell in your bathroom.

“As it is acidic, don’t forget to protect your hands with a pair of bathroom gloves.”

After leaving the lime juice to work, grab a microfibre cloth to wipe down the screen.

The cleaning pro added: “Dampen the cloth with clean, warm water and for best results, work from the top to the bottom of your screen, in a zig-zag motion, to cover all areas and catch any drips.

“Rinse the cloth with clean water, wring out and repeat until all of the lime solution has been removed.”

Marigold has a number of cleaning cloths available which provide a streak-free finish, but there are lots available on the market.

Limes can be purchased for as little as 24p from supermarkets, making this an easy hack with minimal effort and cost.

Laura noted: “Another tip is to use your microfibre cloth to dry down your shower after each use, this helps to prevent limescale build-up and removes any watermarks.”

Before use, check manufacturer guidelines to ensure lime is suitable to be used for the surfaces within your shower, testing on an inconspicuous area first.
